Date

How to Ring in the New Year with Your Spouse

With noisemakers in the car

Our ringing in the New Year celebration is usually on the quiet side because our kids are in bed. We don’t want to do anything to add to the noise outside that could wake them up. You could take your noisemakers and cheers and loud celebrating out to your car instead! That way, you can be a little more loud and excited, without the fear of waking your kids, or neighbors.

Kissing into the new year

New Year’s Eve kisses are a classic tradition! Start your kiss as the countdown into the new year begins. And continue kissing until everyone has shouted “Happy New Year!”

Toasting with bubbly

We always have a bottle of sparking cider on hand for moments of celebration. You can use any bubbly drink you prefer for your toast! Fill your glasses up and toast together as the clock strikes midnight.

Share a memory and something you’re looking forward to

A few minutes before midnight, take turns sharing a happy memory or two from the previous year. After the new year has arrived, and you’ve shared your New Year’s kiss, each of you can share something you’re looking forward to about the new year.

With a firework show of your own

You can celebrate the new year in the privacy of your bedroom. Use the Game of Love, Sheets & Ladders, or create your own fun!

Have a dance party

Why not dance your way into the new year? Sit down together in the week leading up to New Year’s Eve, or even earlier that evening. Spend time putting together a playlist of all of your favorite songs, the ones you want to be your anthems and theme songs for the new year. Turn the music on full blast and dance your way from one year to the other!

Sharing a long hug

I’m a big fan of a really good hug, so this idea appeals to me. I feel like a hug is so connecting, without saying a word. When I hug my husband, all of my cares, fears, and frustrations melt away for that moment. I feel peace, security, and love. Those are the kind of feelings that I want to enter the new year with, so I would love to hug our way into the new year.
