Holiday Gift Wrapping – At Home Date Night Idea

Date

Are you a wrap presents as you purchase them type person or do you wait until the weekend before Christmas and wrap them all at once. I tend to do the latter because I like to get it all done in one sitting. The last couple of years, we’ve made a date night out of wrapping Christmas gifts and it makes the whole process a lot more fun! This at home date is perfect for a night when you don’t have family parties or other things going on. It gives you an opportunity to relax and enjoy each other’s company after the kids are in bed, while still crossing something off of your to do list.

At-Home Holiday Date Idea

Before we sit down to wrap our gifts, we grab our favorite snacks and pick out a Christmas movie. We usually choose one that we’ve seen multiple times, like Elf or The Santa Clause. We don’t have to pay close attention but we know we’ll enjoy it. If I’m being totally honest, Joe isn’t a fan of wrapping gifts, so it’s usually a one-man project. But he has tasks and assists me so that he stays involved. One of these days I’ll convince him to join me in the actual wrapping.

You could also set up your gift wrapping station in front of the Christmas tree. With Christmas music playing in the background and talk while you wrap. Or each of you could set up camp on a different table or counter in the kitchen. And munch on sugar cookies and drink hot chocolate while you wrap and chat.

Prepping for your date

To minimize the number of times you have to leave the room, I suggest making sure you are completely prepared ahead of time. Have a couple of rolls of wrapping paper and extra tape on hand for when you run out. As well as an extra pair of scissors for when the sea of wrapping paper and gifts swallows the pair you were using and you aren’t able to find it. I suggest all of these things from personal experience.

I also separate my gifts into piles and have a list of everything that we’re gifting. This way, I can verify that I’m not forgetting anything before I start wrapping. Until we wrap them, the presents we’re giving for the year all go into the same box. I hide the box somewhere in my basement, to hopefully eliminate anything being hidden so well that I can’t remember where I put it.

Ending your date

When all of the presents have been wrapped, labeled, and put under the tree, we cuddle up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the rest of the evening together. This at-home holiday date night is a fun tradition that’s productive and helps us make time together during the busy holiday season a priority!
