Budget Friendly Date Idea for These Last Summer Nights

Date

I'm both excited and sad that summer is coming to a close. This past week there's been a slight nip in the air and I even put on a sweatshirt the other day. I'm excited for a new month and the changes to our routine that are coming. While the weather is still warm, we're sneaking in a few outside date nights. This date activity is free and can be done when you aren't able to get out of the house or after dinner when the babysitter is home putting your kids to bed. It can be romantic or it can be silly, but it's a great opportunity to relax and connect together.

Stargazing

It’s a classic summer activity, but you can’t go wrong with it. I love laying out under the stars, cuddling with my man and listening to our favorite music or just talking. There are a lot of great apps out there that you can download to your phone. And use to find constellations in your area depending on the time of year.

Slow Dancing

When was the last time you danced together? Joe isn’t a huge fan of dancing. But he’ll humor me and slow dance to a love song every once in a while. I know the cliche thing is to dance in the kitchen together. But I have a couple of other ideas for you.

Places to Go

Scenic Overlook

There are a couple of scenic overlooks in our area with parking areas that are perfect for watching the sun set. You could put together a playlist with some of your favorite love songs, your wedding song, and a few other fun ones that you like to dance to. After you’re finished dancing, lay in the back of a truck or open the sun roof in your car and talk while you watch the stars come out.

A Local Park Field

We have a lot of great parks in our area with big field areas that are open and away from the city lights. Turn a playlist on your phone and dance together under the stars. You can lay out a blanket in the middle of the field and watch the stars together. There are fun apps that can help you recognize constellations and stars in your area. Just be aware of the park curfews in your area.

An Empty Parking Lot

If you live in an area without mountains or parks or other scenic areas, you can always pull over into the nearest empty parking lot and dance there. Then pull out a few blankets and pillows and watch the stars until you have to get your babysitter home.

Your Own Backyard

Now that we have a large deck, we spend a lot of time in our backyard, enjoying the summer nights. We generally light some mosquito candles because they’re awful in our area. But the candles just add to the romantic atmosphere, right? We dance on the deck, then pull Joe’s truck into the backyard and put our air mattress in the back to stargaze and watch a movie on the laptop.

summer date ideas

The only thing that would make this date night even better is if a late summer thunderstorm blew through right before we headed out to dance and stargaze. I LOVE the cool, calm, rain scented air late at night after a good summer storm. If there isn’t any lightning, you could even go out and dance in the rain. I hope you’ll enjoy this budget friendly date! It’s a powerful way to connect in a few different ways!
