30 in my 30’s – A Bucket List Update

Date

Last year I decided to head into my 30’s with some goals to complete in the next 10 years of my life! In celebration of my 31st birthday, I thought I’d put together an update on what I’ve done over the last year and what I’m currently working on completing. I added a few bonus "goals” based on things I accomplished over the last year. I can’t wait to see what the next year of life brings my way!

Spiritual Growth

Play and sing every verse of every song in the hymn book

I’ve stalled on this goal and need to get going again. Maybe starting over because it’s been a couple of months since I’ve made any progress. I’m going to set a goal to complete this one by the end of 2019.

Read the Doctrine and Covenants

Another goal that I started but haven’t completed. I set a timeline in my Gospel Library app that pops up with reminders to read each day and tells me how much to read each day to achieve my goal. Earlier this month, I recalculated the study goal. And I plan to complete it by the end of the year as well.

Home and Family Life

Attend a Simply on Purpose workshop

I crossed this off my list the weekend after I turned 30! Ralphie of Simply on Purpose is an amazing human and so inspiring as a parent. When I heard she was coming to my hometown, my friend and I grabbed tickets. It was a great night of laughter and learning. And I’ve seen a lot of great things happen in our home as I’ve applied the things that we learned that night.

Attend a Gottman marriage conference

I had forgotten that this item was on my list. And I planned on adding it to this list as a bonus. A month ago, we attended a Utah Date Night event where John AND Julie Gottman both spoke! It was AMAZING!!! Over 3000 people were in attendance and the entire event was inspiring and just what I needed.

Arts and Culture

See a favorite musical at the Eccles Theatre

For Christmas last year, Joe gave me tickets to see Wicked at Eccles when it was going to be in Utah a couple of months later. I had a pretty bad sinus infection when the date arrived, but still really enjoyed the show! It was my third time seeing Wicked (the first time was at The Gershwin in New York). And I caught new things I had never noticed the first two times. I can’t wait to see more shows at The Eccles in the future!

Bonus: See a favorite musical at the new Hale Center Theatre

This is happening tomorrow night!!! Hale Center Theatre is theatre in the round, and they recently built and moved to a gorgeous new building that I hadn’t been to yet. When I heard that they were going to be putting on Maury Yeston’s ‘Phantom’, I knew I had to go. The last time I saw the show was at the original Hale Center Theatre building probably 10 years ago. I purchased tickets to go on a date with Joe for my birthday and I couldn’t be more excited!

I’m proud of everything that I accomplished this year, including things that are not on this list. I do want to make sure to cross off an item or two from the Education/Career and Personal Development sections this coming year. I have a few things in the works that guarantee I will do. And I’ll keep you updated as I start working on them.

If you’ve felt like you’re in a rut or want to accomplish some new things, I highly suggest creating a bucket list! Whether it’s a bucket list for the next year of your life. Or for things that you want to accomplish over the next five years or decade of your life. It has been so fun and empowering to have these things to work toward and accomplish just for myself!
